Sarah Barcus

Counselor

Sarah has considered the Ozarks home since she moved here for college in 1995 and she recently joined the team at Shelterwood in July of 2008, after working in multiple clinical in-patient and outpatient programs for children, adults, and families with psychiatric need. She obtained her Bachelors of Science degree in Youth Ministries from Baptist Bible College and her Masters of Arts in Counseling from Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri. Sarah has been working with children and families in crisis for the past 13 years. Her experience includes; owning and operating a private counseling practice with a focus in helping those who struggle with eating disorders, being a professional foster parent, directing children’s ministry programs, working in a community crisis house for adults with severe and persistent mental illnesses, and working in in-patient psychiatric units for adults and children needing crisis stabilization. “Growing up in a family in crisis myself, I know first hand the healing and restoration that the Lord has to offer those who are hurting. It has been my passion to be an agent of the Lord’s healing, and I am amazed at the dramatic changes I have seen take place in hearts and families in the short amount of time that I have been with Doulos. There is no question in my mind, that the Lord is at work here, in this place and nothing is impossible with Him!”
