"And he will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither, and in whatever he does he prospers."

"Shelterwood" is a forestry technique whereby certain trees, which cannot tolerate the intensity of the sun, are sheltered on the forest floor by older, more mature trees until they can stand and grow on their own. In the same way, Shelterwood provides a place where teens can be sheltered from the intensity of their adolescence while breaking down barriers within the family so that they can be reunited in a new atmosphere in the home.
Our ministry began "sheltering" teens in 1980 when a father approached Richard Beach founder of Doulos Ministries, looking for an alternative for his daughter who was headed down a very self-destructing path. The Lord provided a mentor, a counselor and a new option for this young lady when she came to live with a LeadTime student as the first Shelterwood resident.
Over 27 years later, Shelterwood is still on course, having served 940 families since 1982. We operate two campuses: a beautiful 20-acre wooded property outside of Branson, MO and 200 acres near the beautiful Missouri River Basin near Kansas City, MO. A non-profit, faith-based organization, Shelterwood is a licensed with the Residential Child Care Agencies (RCCF) through Missouri State's Division of Family Services.
