Campus Life

Campus Life

Learning, serving and playing to heal.

Academics: Both our Denver and Branson facilities are equipped and accredited with an on-site private school program so that your teen can continue their education while at Shelterwood. With a low teacher-to-student ratio, your teen will receive individual attention. Many students need this to regain confidence in their academic skills and build positive relationships with teachers and peers.

Community Service & Mission Trips: Shelterwood teens serve one another, serve the community and learn to serve the world. Through work projects on campus, your teen will pick up valuable work/life skills and understand teamwork to accomplish a task. Your child will also participate in "Beyond Shelterwood" days which are both academic field trips and community service trips.

Community Service
We serve at local shelters, churches, and various places in the community. Shelterwood offers your teen many missional experiences, including building homes and caring for orphans in Mexico with our missions partners. Your teen will experience a great amount of healing from living beyond him or herself.

Recreation: Much of your child's self image is intertwined with his or her perception of the physical self. Mixing leisure and recreational activities with clinical and scholastic elements of treatment is an essential ingredient for positive development.

Recreation
Our recreational activity program is designed to promote trust of self and others, willingness to take personal risks, positive self-expression, healthy personal interests and self-confidence. It's playing with a purpose! We go to movies, the local rec center, swimming, and other "normal" outlets so as to reengage your teen with healthy alternatives to their prior activities.

Adventure: Many teens have been engaged in antisocial pursuits prior to coming to Shelterwood. More isolating behaviors, such as chat rooms, video games, etc. are minimized or removed and exchanged for a great variety of adventure experiences including camping, hiking, snowboarding, skiing, rock climbing, theatre and drama, and our popular R.O.P.E.S. initiative course.
