Dr. John Trent Says...
"When I am asked by a family who is in the middle of a crisis with a beloved, oppositional teen,'Is there a place they can go for real help and hope?' - I give them Shelterwood's number. In my opinion, Shelterwood is in the top 1% of residential treatment programs for teens that blends authentic Christianity with outstanding clinical and 'life-on-life' support, modeling and counsel."

Parenting is an adventure and the restoration of your family may be the adventure of a lifetime. At this moment you might feel as though you have experienced enough excitement and you are looking for a way to calm things down, putting an end to the chaos that has engulfed your home by placing your child in residential care.
Each of you is at a different place in your adventure as you search the Internet for treatment programs, boarding schools, and Christian facilities. Some are considering placing your teen in treatment outside of the home for the very first time. You might still be dealing with the shock that this option has even become necessary. You have done everything in your power to raise a Godly child and have made every sacrifice possible to be a model parent. Others might have seen this type of placement coming years ago and wondered why this child, unlike his/her siblings, seems bent on struggling and creating problems. For each parent there is often confusion and fear around what it means to place your child in a residential treatment facility.
While placement in a boarding school might feel like a last ditch effort or a big financial and emotional risk, at Shelterwood, we see this decision as a new beginning. The at-risk youth that attend our treatment program crave structure and boundaries. While their risky behavior might seem like they want distance, teens are often searching for connection and desire hope in their lives. We believe that we can help troubled teens find their way through adolescence and help them reconnect in a much deeper way with their parents.
Shelterwood has stood out among other boarding schools, treatment facilities, programs for at-risk teens and even other Christian boarding schools for more than thirty years. Through the years, our nonprofit ministry has helped hundreds of teens grow and become the people they were intended to be.
We invite you and your family to read more about Shelterwood and the difference it has made for so many teens. Please feel free to contact us directly with any questions you may have about what makes us and our at-risk youth program different from standard therapeutic boarding schools. The distinctions are what have made us so successful in helping teens move past obstacles and on toward brighter futures.
