Shelterwood was founded more than thirty years ago to help families and teenagers build better, stronger and brighter lives. Attending our program allows parents to reconnect with each other and their other children while providing their struggling teen a place to safely address his or her own needs. We provide the safety and experience necessary for teens to address issues of depression, anger, substance use, risky behavior, anger, substance abuse, family discord, and school failure. Our program has grown and evolved over the years and has successfully assisted thousands of families in realizing their dreams. We stand out among secular and Christian boarding schools.

Shelterwood is a dynamic atmosphere that wraps teens in love when they are at their worst. We surround students in a 24 hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week plan with people who love Jesus and want to have a positive impact on the lives of others. Among therapeutic boarding schools, Shelterwood also excels in its accredited academic program with school and qualified teachers on campus -- where most therapeutic boarding schools use self-paced workbooks or computer classes. Our dedication to education is part of our desire to ensure that a child's stay at Shelterwood helps them academically, spiritually, mentally and emotionally.

In addition to our Master's level counselors, licensed teachers, and facility staff, there are twenty full-time mentors serving on-site throughout the year. It is simply our intent to make sure our teens are surrounded by people who will support and love them even when they are at their worst.

Shelterwood’s treats the whole teen and his or her family. Our teachers, counselors, mentors, and house staff work together to provide a unified treatment approach that includes:

  • Individual treatment plan tailored specifically for each teen in our care
  • Individual, group, and family counseling to rebuild lives
  • Outdoor therapy to grow self-esteem and confidence
  • Life skills work to set teens on a positive road in their future endeavors
  • Spiritual retreats to foster a healthy outlook
  • Family retreat weekends to build strong, loving bonds
  • Academic plans at our on-site accredited private school to ensure each teen’s educational needs are met and that the teens that are in our care continue to grow academically.

Our therapeutic approach is rooted in our desire to see real internal heart change through deep meaningful relationships with the teens. We are committed to helping the teens in our care work towards their goals and turn their lives around. Most of the troubled teens that we work with remain in contact with our staff for years after the program is complete. We have been invited to attend weddings, graduations, births, and even funerals as we stand alongside our students as they walk through life. While there are other therapeutic boarding schools to consider, few take the multifaceted approach that Shelterwood delivers. Shelterwood Therapeutic School for Teens is a Christian therapeutic boarding school with residential therapy for troubled teens with teen counseling to provide behavior modification for teenagers struggling with anger, oppositional defiant disorder (ODD), attention deficit, attention deficit disorder (ADD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), substance abuse, depression, reactive attachment disorder (RAD), intermittent explosive disorder (IED), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders, self-harm, or rebellion. Shelterwood is a therapeutic residential program and academy for troubled teenage boys and girls, located in Missouri.


THERAPEUTIC BOARDING SCHOOLS WITH
BEHAVIORAL THERAPY FOR STRUGGLING TEENS

Shelterwood provides troubled teens with teen counseling and adolescent therapy. Our therapeutic residential schools serve teens from the Midwest, Texas, California, Oregon and Washington on the West Coast and Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Nevada in the Southwest. In the southern and central states we serve teens in Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Louisiana, and Mississippi, Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois and in the northern states Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Idaho in the north, and along the east coast from Georgia to Florida, Virginia, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. Teens come to Shelterwood from the U.S. and Canada. It is one of few therapeutic programs for teens close to Kansas City, St. Louis, Tulsa, Wichita, Lincoln, Omaha, Chicago, Indianapolis and other central state cities like Dallas, Fort Worth, Oklahoma City, Minneapolis, and Detroit.
